As the consultation period on The Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD) draws to a close, the European Commission has been evaluating the fund through study tours to projects on the ground in multiple European countries. The FEAD is the EU’s funding instrument that provides material assistance and social inclusion measures for the most deprived in our communities.

This initiative highlights the importance of evaluation of European funding instruments as a combination of consultations with the public and with stakeholders, and through field trips analysing how projects are run in practice. Without comprehensive monitoring and evaluation, the FEAD’s social inclusion measures will fail to effect real change on the ground.

Within our network, we believe that engaging with direct beneficiaries is the best way to reach out to aid recipients and ensure help is received where it is needed most. Eurodiaconia offers the opportunity for its members to see the implementation of FEAD's Social Inclusion Programme (OP II) through a study visit in Sweden this July. The visit will allow those working with the FEAD to exchange practice and experiences with others, particularly useful for those interested in running projects in the future. Members can learn more about the study visit on our website.
